    News for Immediate Release:

Tidelands Health provides record number of free sports physicals to Georgetown County students
A record number of Georgetown County students received free sports physicals in May through a longstanding Tidelands Health program that helps student athletes prepare to compete.
More than 1,000 middle and high school students took advantage of the scheduled clinics at the county’s high schools, the most students in a single year since the program began 20 years ago.
“It’s rewarding to see so many students eager to participate in school sports, and we’re proud to support them by offering these focused clinics at the schools for convenient and streamlined access to sports physicals,” said Dr. William Greer, an orthopedic and sports medicine specialist at Tidelands Health. “This year, more students than ever in Georgetown County high schools and middle schools took advantage of this on-site opportunity to receive their required physicals before joining a sports team at school.”
Throughout May, Tidelands Health physicians, orthopedic specialists, physical therapists and other care providers visited all four high schools in Georgetown County to provide on-site physicals at no cost to students. School gyms were temporarily converted into hubs where students moved through a series of stations to complete their mandatory screenings.
Students’ blood pressure, height, weight, mobility and overall health were checked as a requirement to participate in organized sports during the 2025-26 school year.
The sports physical program began as a small effort at a Tidelands Health physician’s office and has expanded over the years to on-site physicals at the county’s four high schools. Organized by the Tidelands Health Sports Medicine Institute, the free sports physicals at the schools aim to encourage physical activity among students and break down a potential barrier to sports participation.
