    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    Georgetown County monitoring tropical system
GEORGETOWN, S.C. – Georgetown County Emergency Management is closely monitoring a developing tropical system in the Atlantic that forecasters expect could impact our area early next week.
As of this morning, the system — currently designated Invest 94L — is still working to organize and is expected to become a tropical depression later today or over the weekend. Until it develops further, forecasters are relying on model guidance to anticipate its track and potential impacts. The majority of forecast models continue to indicate a landfall along the South Carolina coast early next week, most likely as a strong tropical storm or low-end Category 1 hurricane, with rainfall totals between 3–5 inches and higher amounts possible depending on the exact track. Storm surge could also be a concern along the immediate coast.

Georgetown County remains at OPCON 3 — normal operations. Emergency Management staff are engaged in multiple coordination calls with state and local partners and are prepared to activate the county’s Emergency Operations Center over the weekend if needed.

“We are monitoring Invest 94L very closely,” said Georgetown County Emergency Management Director. “While it’s too soon to know exactly what impacts we may see here, our team is poised to respond quickly if activation becomes necessary.”

Residents are encouraged to review their hurricane plans now and continue to follow trusted sources for updates, including the National Weather Service and Georgetown County Emergency Management.
