In the Pink breast cancer awareness walk Saturday raises more than $260,000 to support local health care

Waves of pink-clad walkers streamed along the paths at Brookgreen Gardens on Saturday as more than 2,000 people came together for the 20th annual Tidelands Health In the Pink breast cancer awareness walk.

This year’s In the Pink raised more than $260,000 for the Tidelands Health breast care fund – a record amount.

In addition to raising awareness and funds, In the Pink celebrates breast cancer survivors, remembers those lost to the disease and creates an inspiring environment of hope and healing.

“For 20 years, our community has been the heart of our In the Pink breast cancer awareness walk and has helped it grow into such a powerful, special event,” said Dr. Craig Brackett, medical director of the Tidelands Health breast program who helped create In the Pink 20 years ago. “Standing on the stage today looking at such a large crowd of participants proudly wearing pink, it was hard not to be overcome with gratitude for every walker, donor, sponsor and volunteer through the years who has made a difference in the lives of so many.”

To mark the milestone year, Tidelands Health recognized a family who has participated in all 20 In the Pink walks and honored Dr. Brackett for his vision to raise awareness of breast cancer and support local patients through the creation of In the Pink two decades ago. The event started with about 200 walkers and has evolved into the region’s largest breast cancer walk.

“What began as his idea has grown into a powerful community event that continues to inspire hope and support for those affected by breast cancer,” said Bruce Bailey, president and CEO of Tidelands Health.
