News for Immediate Release:
Tidelands Health to receive $5 million for women and children’s health care
Tidelands Health will receive $5 million in federal funding to enhance access to care for women and children along the Grand Strand.
The funding, which was secured by U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., as part of the federal appropriations process, will be used to develop, in partnership with MUSC Health, a comprehensive women and children’s center in south Horry County on the campus of the planned Tidelands Health Carolina Bays Hospital. The center will feature a broad array of primary and specialty care for women and children, including access to maternal-fetal medicine specialists for mothers experiencing high-risk pregnancies, general pediatric care, dedicated pediatric urgent care and full-time subspecialty pediatric services aligned with MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital.
“This federal investment will help us significantly expand access to high-quality, specialized care for women and children along the Grand Strand, particularly those with complex or high-risk care needs,” said Bruce Bailey, president and CEO of Tidelands Health. “With our partners at MUSC Health, we are helping families across our region access the advanced care they need close to home.”
The funding for the women and children’s center was included as part of an appropriations package approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday. The U.S. Senate approved the package Friday.
Site work at Tidelands Health Carolina Bays Hospital is underway, with construction expected to be complete in late 2028. In addition to the women and children’s center, the hospital will offer full-service emergency care, specialized cardiac care, including open-heart surgery, robotic surgery, a full-service cancer center, advanced imaging services and more.
Beyond its direct health care benefits, the new hospital is also expected to provide a major economic stimulus to the region through the creation of hundreds of new jobs, the purchase of local goods and services and as a key support for the continued growth of other businesses and industry.
In 2024, Tidelands Health generated approximately $978 million in total economic impact across Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties, up more than 100 percent from $469 million in 2016, according to a study conducted by Coastal Carolina University.
