Tidelands Health hospitals earn national recognition for high-quality stroke care

Tidelands Health hospitals have again earned national recognition for their commitment to providing high-quality care and treatment for patients experiencing or recovering from a stroke.

Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital and Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital received the American Heart Association’s 2025 Get With the Guidelines quality achievement award for stroke care.

The award recognizes the hospitals’ commitment to providing stroke care and treatment that meets nationally accepted, evidence-based guidelines while also educating patients to help them manage their health and recovery at home.

“From the moment we begin treatment for a stroke through a patient’s recovery, our care team is dedicated to following evidence-based practices and providing compassionate care to our patients,” said Erin Brown, stroke program coordinator at Tidelands Health. “The Get With The Guidelines awards are a testament to our team’s continued commitment to serve our patients experiencing or recovering from a stroke by providing high-quality care.”

Tidelands Georgetown earned “Rural Stroke Gold” recognition for its efforts to optimize stroke care and eliminate rural health care outcome disparities. The hospital earned the recognition based on its early acute stroke performance metrics in the Get With The Guidelines program.

Tidelands Waccamaw earned “Stroke Gold Plus” with additional recognitions as “Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite” for meeting criteria to reduce the time between a patient’s arrival and the start of specific treatment and “Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll” for care provided to patients with type 2 diabetes who are hospitalized with heart failure, heart attack or stroke.

The American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines stroke program provides hospitals with the latest research-based guidelines for stroke care. The 2025 awards are based on the hospitals’ Get With The Guidelines data.

“We are incredibly pleased to recognize Tidelands Health for its commitment to caring for patients with stroke,” said Steven Messe, MD, volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group. “Participation in Get With The Guidelines is associated with improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
