News for Immediate Release:
Tidelands Health hospitals earn awards for patient safety
Tidelands Health hospitals have again earned recognition from the South Carolina Hospital Association for outstanding performance in patient safety.
Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital and Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital earned multiple Zero Harm Awards, which recognize health care facilities that have eliminated preventable hospital-acquired infections for an extended period through an extraordinary commitment to patient safety. The data is independently verified by the South Carolina Department of Public Health.
Tidelands Georgetown earned awards for having zero surgical site infections for knee replacements and colon surgery. Tidelands Waccamaw earned awards for zero surgical site infections for colon surgery, along with zero instances of hospital onset MRSA and pressure injuries. Both hospitals also earned recognition for preventing central line associated bloodborne infections.
Tidelands Georgetown and Tidelands Waccamaw also earned the Suicide Prevention Priority Award and the Workplace Violence Priority Award.
“The recognition Tidelands Health earned through the South Carolina Hospital Association’s Zero Harm Awards is a reflection on our unwavering commitment to our patients and their care,” said Dr. Phil Dulberger, executive vice president and chief physician executive. “Patient safety is always our top priority. Our skilled clinical teams embrace our focus on patient-centered care using the latest evidence-based practices.”
In collaboration with The Duke Endowment and The Joint Commission Center for Transforming Health, SCHA launched its Zero Harm Awards in 2013 to recognize hospitals throughout the state that are on the forefront of preventing medical errors. The program has expanded through the years with additional awards.
“SCHA’s Zero Harm Award winners are an inspiration to hospitals across the state,” said SCHA President and CEO Thornton Kirby. “Achieving zero patient harm requires a strong culture of teamwork and high reliability.”
