“FIRST ON THE SCENE:” Georgetown Tidal Tales September 13 Show Benefits Black River United Way’s “Be Ready! Disaster Preparedness & Recovery” Program
Six to eight Georgetown citizens will have the opportunity to tell a true, 5-minute story on the topic, “FIRST ON THE SCENE” at the Georgetown Tidal Tales show on Saturday evening, September 13, 2025 at Winyah Auditorium. Storytellers can submit their true story (about doing what had to be done—or being an “early adopter;” whatever the theme means to them) by submitting online or downloading the paper form at: https://tinyurl.com/59jpwjs7
The show runs 7:30-9:30 PM and features the Zack Patton Trio, as well as intermission piano music by Tom Santopietro. Tickets are $10 and are available on the website and at the door. All proceeds after covering production costs will be donated to Black River United Way’s “Be Ready! Disaster Preparedness & Recovery” program in Georgetown County. “We are so excited to partner with Tidal Tales,” says Elizabeth Schlueter, Director of Philanthropy, Black River United Way. “Georgetown County has a national disaster risk score of 71% ,” Schlueter stated. “That’s why our program partners with and leads the Winyah Bay COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster): to prepare our communities for disasters in what we term ‘blue skies,’ with training for children, adults, and volunteers; and in ‘grey skies,” when an impending event requires our teams to mobilize to support our neighbors.”
Janet Fricke, Georgetown Tidal Tales Executive Director, started the non-profit in 2024 to build community. “You have to experience a show to understand it.” she says. “When real people tell true stories that are humorous, touching, unexpected and enlightening, you get more than a powerful night of live theater. You get the feeling we are all part of one human family,” she says. Four shows are scheduled in 2025 and each will benefit a local Georgetown nonprofit. “Georgetown is a great place to live,” Fricke says, “and Tidal Tales wants to empower this community on every level.”
