    News for Immediate Release:

MUSC Health Tidelands Health Radiation Therapy Center earns national award for patient experience
Patients at the MUSC Health Tidelands Health Radiation Therapy Center in Murrells Inlet not only receive high-quality cancer care but also benefit from one of the top-rated, award-winning patient experience environments in the country.
The radiation oncology center earned the Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Award given by Press Ganey, a company that specializes in health care experience solutions and services. The award is part of Press Ganey’s annual ranking of the top hospitals and health systems in the country, according to performance in patient experience.
Dr. Nicole Anderson, a radiation oncologist and medical director at the center, says that often it’s the small things that make a big impact for patients, especially those who may understandably feel hesitant or vulnerable about their cancer treatment. Team members routinely look for ways to make patients feel comfortable and cared for, from assisting them through the parking lot to helping them navigate other needed health care services.
“Every day, patients tell me how professional and compassionate the staff is and how comfortable our team members made them feel,” Dr. Anderson said. “Patients feel a connection to our team members, who genuinely care for our patients’ health and well-being.”
As a winner of the Press Ganey HX Guardian of Excellence Award, MUSC Health Tidelands Health Radiation Therapy Center was in the Top 5 percent of health care providers in delivering patient experience in 2022. Press Ganey works with more than 41,000 health care facilities in its mission to reduce patient suffering and enhance caregiver resilience to improve the overall safety, quality and experience of care.
“By putting their patients and workforce first each and every day, the MUSC Health Tidelands Health Radiation Therapy Center in Murrells Inlet is demonstrating their unwavering commitment to their employees and to the communities they serve,” said Patrick Ryan, Press Ganey chairman and CEO. “The caregivers at MUSC Health Tidelands Health Radiation Therapy Center have inspired us with the compassion, empathy and human connection they bring to the clinical health care setting. We are honored to partner with them as we celebrate their achievement.”
The excellence in patient experience highlighted by the Press Ganey award complements the high-quality cancer care offered at the MUSC Health Tidelands Health Radiation Therapy Center, part of the Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network. Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network is the region’s affiliate of the MUSC Hollings Cancer Network and offers a broad range of cancer services across Horry and Georgetown counties.
MUSC Hollings Cancer Center is South Carolina’s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center.
“We applaud our team members at the MUSC Health Tidelands Health Radiation Therapy Center for earning such a distinguished award through their incredible service to our patients,” said Mark Loos, vice president of operations at Tidelands Health. “The Press Ganey HX Guardian of Excellence Award is another testament to our team’s commitment to high-quality, compassionate care. Patients can be assured that our team will be looking out for them and their needs every step of the way.”
