    News for Immediate Release:

Give the gift of life this holiday season
Give the gift of life this holiday season with a donation at an upcoming blood drive.
Tidelands Health is partnering with its blood suppliers - the American Red Cross and The Blood Connection - to sponsor several blood drives during the holiday season:
    • Friday, Dec. 1, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road. Make an appointment at redcrossblood.org.
    • Monday, Dec. 18, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road. Make an appoint at thebloodconnection.org.
    • Monday, Dec. 18, 9 a.m. to noon, Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, 4070 U.S. 17 South in Murrells Inlet. Make an appoint at thebloodconnection.org
    • Wednesday, Jan. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Waccamaw Medical Park South, 4367 Riverwood Drive, Murrells Inlet. Make an appointment at redcrossblood.org.
Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome.
Tidelands Health encourages community members to donate blood this holiday season -- when blood donations typically decline but the need remains. Blood supplies gathered through donations are vital for patients with cancer, chronic diseases, cardiac conditions, those who experience physical trauma and more. A single blood donation has a shelf life of only 42 days, so donations from community members are continuously needed to keep supplies replenished.
“A blood donation truly is the gift of life,” said Ashley Capps, vice president of operations and chief nursing officer. “During this season of giving, we encourage community members to donate at one of our upcoming blood drives. Thank you for your generosity not just during the holiday season, but year round through your blood donations and support.”
Blood donors must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Be sure to bring a valid ID. People who are feeling ill should postpone donating blood until they feel healthy and are symptom-free.
