A 16,000 acre research reserve and one of the few undeveloped tracts on the Waccamaw Neck. In 1718, Hobcaw became a colonial land grant and part of profitable rice production until the 20th century.

Birding on the Barony
- Explore the salt marsh for shorebirds, longleaf pine forest for red cockaded woodpeckers and the grounds of Bellefield Plantation and pond for woodland species.
