The 32^nd class of Leadership Georgetown County class is proud to announce the successful completion of their class project aimed at improving safety for beachgoers, as well as providing vital location markers for first responders in case of emergencies.
The beach access signs, now prominently displayed along each beach access point in the county, offer clear, visible guidance to visitors seeking to enjoy the magnificent coastline, while also playing an essential role in enhancing the safety and response time for emergency services. Each sign contains a QR code which brings access to current weather and water conditions. With the growing popularity of the Hammock Coast beaches, this initiative provides a much-needed upgrade to public infrastructure that supports both leisure activities and public safety.

Each of the 130 signs was strategically placed at points of entry to ensure easy access and visibility for beachgoers. In addition to guiding the public to the most convenient beach access locations, the signs are also equipped with clear identification markers that will assist emergency responders in locating individuals in distress more quickly.

The project was made possible through generous funding from local businesses, including Anderson Insurance Associates, First Citizens Bank, GKCU, HGTC, HTC, J&S Flooring, JB Palmetto Health, Platt’s Barbershop and individual donors, Junie Christian and Will & Valerie Duke. Th signs are designed to withstand coastal weather conditions, ensuring they remain durable and functional for years to come.
