Patricia Bracewell
(Emma of Normandy Trilogy)
You never know who you might meet on a cruise! It might just be the literary mother of a Queen. Such was the chance meeting that brings us this First Place, Best in Category, 2021 Chaucer Book Awards author for pre-1750s Historical Fiction by the Chanticleer International Book Awards (CIBA). While that's a mouthful, the trilogy itself is beautifully written, compelling, heartbreaking – an out-and-out masterpiece with raves from fellow historical novelists and acclaim from all the critics who matter. Between 2013 and 2021, Bracewell wrote "Shadow on the Crown," then The "Price of Blood," and "The Steel Beneath the Silk," completing the trilogy but not the whole story of Queen Emma. More is underway. Concurrently, she's had time to travel the globe and blog about the Netflix fantasy, "Vikings Valhalla," teasing out the few nuggets of fact around which that preposterous fiction was spun. Perhaps her own meticulously researched version of Emma's role in the reigns of seven kings of England, at a time when just surviving so many rulers was a noteworthy accomplishment, will find favor with the small or big screen powers.Location:DeBordieu Colony Clubhouse
