Bill Oberst in A One-Man Christmas Carol at Winyah Auditorium!
Name: Bill Oberst in A One-Man Christmas Carol at Winyah Auditorium!Date: December 4, 2022Time: 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM ESTWebsite: https://www.winyahauditorium.org/Event Description:Winyah Auditorium presents Bill Oberst as he performs his 1-man-show "A Classic Christmas Story" monologue style. And get in the spirit of the season with some festive music by the Marsh Hens!
Bill Oberst Jr. takes his Christmas Carol seriously. The actor's recitation of the classic tale is as true to Dickens as is possible...with only one guy in the cast.
Oberst's solo performance, A One-Man Christmas Carol, is a frantic one-act in what the actor jokingly calls “slightly abridged” form, with a run time of just under an hour. “The fact that people know the story helps. We hit the highlights” says Oberst. “I secretly hope it makes folks want to re-read, or read for the first time, the book itself!”
What isn't abridged is the language. Even while splicing the story, Oberst sticks to Dickens' 1843 text, including Victorian slang like 'I shall retire to Bedlam' ('You will drive me insane') and 'I'll not gainsay it' ('I won't deny it.') “Once after a school performance, says Oberst, “a kid asked 'What's that talk you talking?' I said 'It's English.' “ Bill Oberst Jr. takes his Christmas Carol seriously. The actor's recitation of the classic tale is as true to Dickens as is possible...with only one guy in the cast. The Three Marsh Hens have been singing together for the past 10 years. Their music has been heard by audiences at Hobcaw Barony, Georgetown’s Veterans Day parade, Indigo Choral Society’s 4th of July concert to name a few. They live in the Georgetown/Pawleys Island area and they are current/retired educators.
