The Plantersville Cultural Center, home to TVG, preserves and promotes the history of the African American contribution to the rice culture and environmental/recreational opportunities of the area. The rice plantation slave community was rich in a culture known as Gullah. Gullah culture includes storytelling, cuisine, music, folk beliefs, crafts, farming and fishing traditions, as well as its own dialect exhibiting strong influence form West and Central African cultures.
Plantersville Summer Academy is the largest Summer Slide Prevention program in Georgetown County. Along with providing 3 meals a day, our certified teachers provide children in Georgetown County entering k - 9th grade structured morning instruction focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) programing with a strong focus on language arts and reading. The afternoon has experiential activities, field trips, sports, guest speakers and numerous hands on activities before leaving at 5 pm.
Plantersville Enrichment Academy - An afterschool program for Plantersville elementary school students where certified teachers focus on providing homework assistance and activities based on STEAM programs. An afterschool snack and dinner are provided.
The Village Flyers is a mentor based cycling club that pairs mentor-mentee together for regular rides, ongoing interaction building a connection between under-served youth and the community. Physical activity and outdoor experiences ignite beneficial habits as part of a healthy lifestyle..
