Aquatic habitats contain a bustling world of creatures, including macroinvertebrates! Highly charismatic organisms, macroinvertebrates are indicators of water quality and vital components of food webs. In this interactive program, participants will use dip nets to find and later identify larval insects and other critters found in a freshwater pond.
Recommended for ages 6 and up. Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult (free of charge). (Exertion level: Medium impact- walking on uneven terrain, dip netting) Participants will need to dress for the weather and insects, as well as wear close-toed shoes.
Reservations required and in response to Georgetown County Emergency Ordinance 20-33 and the COVID-19 situation, the Hobcaw Barony Discovery Center requires visitors to wear face coverings when entering the Discovery Center as well as ALL other buildings on the tours. Participants are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings during outdoor programs as well, since adequate social distancing is often difficult to maintain.
