Kelvin Waites was appointed Chief of Police for the Georgetown Police Department in July of 2016. Chief Waites began his law enforcement career with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office in 1997 after serving in the United States Army in the Military Intelligence field. For the past twenty plus years Chief Waites has served in both Georgetown and Horry Counties in several different capacities. Chief Waites has had the opportunity over the course of his career to work every aspect of law enforcement.
Chief Waites’ education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree from Charleston Southern University in Organizational Management. He is a graduate of the prestigious F.B.I. National Academy (class #248) located at Quantico Virginia, and is also a graduate of the DEA’s Drug Unit Commander’s Academy (class # 60) which is also located at Quantico Virginia.
Chief Waites is a member of the FBI National Academy Associates, a member of the South Carolina Police Chief’s Association, and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Chief Waites lives in the Brown’s Ferry Community in Georgetown South Carolina with his wife Chelice Cox Waites, and their two children Jasmin and KJ. Kelvin Waites is also a certified Life and Leadership Coach, and the owner of “Waites Lifted Life & Leadership Coaching LLC.” He is the author of the motivational book titled “Hit’em Before they Hit You.” He serves as the Board Chair for AMI Kids of Georgetown, the board of Directors for the Salvation Army for Georgetown & Williamsburg Counties, a board member for “The Village Group” as well as a committee member on the Human Rights Committee for the Georgetown Department of Disabilities & Special needs. Chief Waites is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He also enjoys talking with young people and helping his community. His favorite saying is “Don’t just be good be good for something.”
Most importantly Kelvin Waites is a Christian who believes that we are all actors playing our part in God’s production.
