News for Immediate Release:
Tidelands Health hospitals have again been recognized by the South Carolina Hospital Association for outstanding performance in patient safety.
Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital and Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet earned four Certified Zero Harm Awards, which are given to hospitals that experience no preventable hospital-acquired infections of a specific nature over an extended period.
Tidelands Georgetown earned awards for having no infections at surgical sites for abdominal hysterectomy procedures and hip replacements. Tidelands Waccamaw earned the awards for having no infections at surgical sites for knee replacements and abdominal hysterectomy procedures.
“The Zero Harm program is a significant tool for advancing high-quality health care and a culture of safety in the state’s hospitals,” said Karen Reynolds, executive director of innovation and acceleration at the South Carolina Hospital Association. “South Carolina has developed a blueprint for reducing avoidable harm in our health care facilities by encouraging hospitals to develop a network for communicating and sharing best practices.”
SCHA launched its Zero Harm Award in 2014 to recognize hospitals that have had extended harm-free periods in major areas of surgery and other common medical procedures. These awards demonstrate that patient safety and highly reliable care are cornerstones of South Carolina hospitals. All of the hospital data used for these awards is independently verified by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control based on real health care outcomes.
“Earning these Zero Harm Awards is truly a testament to our dedicated caregivers at Tidelands Health who demonstrate daily their commitment to the safety of our patients,” said Greg Nobles, the health system’s director of patient safety and regulatory compliance. “The awards are just another sign to our patients that you can trust us to provide safe, high-quality and compassionate care. Patient safety is our top priority.”
