News for Immediate Release:
Registration is now open for the Tidelands Health Foundation In the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, in Murrells Inlet.
Hundreds of participants will gather to celebrate survivors, walk the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk and raise money for the Tidelands Health Foundation Breast Care Fund. Musical entertainment and vendors will kick off the day at 8:30 a.m. outside the Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network in Murrells Inlet, followed by the start of the event at 10 a.m. with a few words from breast surgeons Dr. Craig Brackett and Dr. Angela Mislowsky before participants walk to the Marshwalk. Robins & Morton is the presenting sponsor this year.
“The In the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Walk is an event that brings our community together,” said Jessica Sasser, executive director of the Tidelands Health Foundation, which has organized the walk for 18 years. “It’s heartwarming to see so many people wearing their pink T-shirts, celebrating breast cancer survivors, offering hope and raising money for breast cancer screening. It truly is a special day.
“We look forward to seeing those who participate every year and meeting new participants who are eager to join us for this important cause.”
The In the Pink walk is the main fundraiser for the Tidelands Health Foundation Breast Care Fund, which helps provide mammograms and other vital breast health services to those in need. The event, which has attracted as many as 1,200 participants in past years, occurs every October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Registration for the walk is underway at tidelandshealth.org/breastcancerwalk. Participants will receive an In the Pink T-shirt, which they are encouraged to wear to the event.
In addition to registering for the walk, participants may purchase a $5 butterfly in honor of, in memory of or in celebration of someone touched by breast cancer. The Butterflies of Hope, in various shades of pink, will be displayed during the event. Those who buy a butterfly will be entered to win a gift package.
