News for Immediate Release:
The In the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Walk set for Saturday in Murrells Inlet has been rescheduled for Oct. 8 because of the expected effects related to Hurricane Ian.
“The weather forecast really gave us no other option but to delay the In the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Walk for a week,” said Jessica Sasser, executive director of the Tidelands Health Foundation, which organizes the fundraising walk. “We thank our participants, sponsors and vendors for their understanding and flexibility. We look forward to seeing all of you Saturday, Oct. 8, in Murrells Inlet.”
The In the Pink event now will start Saturday, Oct. 8, at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network in Murrells Inlet with musical entertainment and a vendor expo. The walk to the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk will begin at 10 a.m.
Walkers who have already registered have been notified directly. Registration online has been extended until Friday, Oct. 7, at noon for others who want to participate. Register at tidelandshealth.org/breastcancerwalk. Participants will receive an In the Pink T-shirt, which they are encouraged to wear to the event. T-shirt pick-up for participants is available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28; Thursday, Sept. 29; Tuesday, Oct. 4, and Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Waccamaw Medical Park East, Suite 104, 4033 Highway 17 in Murrells Inlet.
In addition to registering for the walk, participants may purchase a $5 butterfly in honor of, in memory of or in celebration of someone who is a breast cancer survivor. The Butterflies of Hope, in various shades of pink, will be displayed during the event. Those who buy a butterfly will be entered to win a gift package from the Tidelands Health Pawleys Family YMCA.
The walk is the main fundraiser for the Tidelands Health Foundation Breast Care Fund, which helps provide mammograms and other vital breast health services to those in need. For the past two years, the event has been held virtually to limit the spread of COVID-19 while continuing the crucial fundraising effort. Coastal Structures and Robins & Morton are the presenting sponsors this year.
