Every 10 years\, federal\, state and local district lines are redrawn
\nbased on the most recent \;census data. These lines determine
\nwho can run to represent us in elections at all levels. \; \;District lines
\nshould be drawn to ensure fair and equal representation
\nfor all residents.

It is the responsibility of Georgetown County Council to update
\nthe \;seven county council \;districts. These lines determine
\nrepresentation \;for county residents on the County Council\, \;as
\nwell as the Georgetown \;County School Board. Georgetown
\nCounty received census data \;in late September of 2021 that
\nallowed it to begin the process of \;redistricting. The county \;
\ncontracted with the state office of Revenue and \;Fiscal Affairs
\n(RFA) to guide it through the \;redistricting process and
\ncreate draft maps of the new Council districts for Council \;
\nconsideration. \; \;Information the RFA used to redraw district lines

Following a workshop on Jan. 11\, Georgetown County Council selected
\na draft redistricting \;map to move forward with as it works to adopt a
\nredistricting plan. This map\, known as \;Plan 1-843A\, is still subject to
\nchange prior to adoption based on public comments. The \;public will
\nhave three opportunities in January to review and comment on draft
\nredistricting \;maps\, as well as pose questions prior to adoption of a
\nredistricting plan. \;
