Join us for the 10th annual Burning of the Socks \;to
\ncelebrate \;spring the mariners way! \;

\n\n
While working on boats all winter\, Captain Bob Turner -
\nnow a Pawleys Island resident - collected sawdust\,
\nbottom \;paint\, caulk\, and other boatyard leavings \;on \;
\nhis socks. \;In other \;words\, his socks would stand up
\nwhen he took them off \;at night. \;One year\, on the first
\nday of spring\, he took off his socks\, \;put \;them in a
\npaint tray\, sprinkled on some lighter fluid\, lit them\,
\nand then had a beer to celebrate. And so the tradition
\nbegan\, \;and there are now sock burnings in coastal
\ncommunities across \;the country. \; \;
\n\n

\n\n
This fundraiser for the South Carolina Maritime
\nMuseum\, features \;sock-burning festivities\, where
\nattendees take turns throwing \;their old socks into a bonfire. \;
\nMusical entertainment and drinks \;will be provided\, and
\nfood will be served \;by Chef Len from \;the \;Indigo Mercantile.

After much success last year\, the museum will again
\ninclude a \;donation drive for socks for Friendship Place.
\nThis is especially \;noteworthy\, as Burning of the Socks
\nwill be held the evening \;before the Georgetown \;
\n
Bridge \;2 Bridge Run\, whose designated
\ncharity is Friendship Place.
