SUMMARY:Burning of the Socks
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 10th annual Burning of the Socks to\n\ncelebrate spring the mariners way! \n\n \n\nWhile working on boats all winter\, Captain Bob Turner -\n\nnow a Pawleys Island resident - collected sawdust\,\n\nbottom paint\, caulk\, and other boatyard leavings on \n\nhis socks. In other words\, his socks would stand up\n\nwhen he took them off at night. One year\, on the first\n\nday of spring\, he took off his socks\, put them in a\n\npaint tray\, sprinkled on some lighter fluid\, lit them\,\n\nand then had a beer to celebrate. And so the tradition\n\nbegan\, and there are now sock burnings in coastal\n\ncommunities across the country. \n\n \n\nThis fundraiser for the South Carolina Maritime\n\nMuseum\, features sock-burning festivities\, where\n\nattendees take turns throwing their old socks into a bonfire. \n\nMusical entertainment and drinks will be provided\, and\n\nfood will be served by Chef Len from the Indigo Mercantile.\n\n \n\nAfter much success last year\, the museum will again\n\ninclude a donation drive for socks for Friendship Place.\n\nThis is especially noteworthy\, as Burning of the Socks\n\nwill be held the evening before the Georgetown \n\nBridge 2 Bridge Run\, whose designated\n\ncharity is Friendship Place.
